The beach
Scarborough is divided into two bays, North Bay and South Bay, by the Castle Headland. Scarborough is famed for its beaches and last year, after a multi-million pound investment from Yorkshire Water, the town's North Bay won the coveted Blue Flag award. Recently Scarborough has invested a lot of money in coastal protection.
Parks and Gardens
From the Victorian style gardens on the south cliff to the many attractions of Peasholm Park you are never far away from greenery in Scarborough. Spend a pleasant afternoon exploring the sensory garden and the Italian gardens then take in the navel battle reenactment on the lake at Peasholm Park.
Atlantis is a heated outdoor water park, located on the North Bay side of Scarborough, close to the entrance to Peasholm Park.
The history
The history of Scarborough dates back to about 8000bc with the stone age settlers. There are many historical attractions to visit including the spa where Victorian socialites would come to bathe and walk among the Italian gardens.
Pubs and restaurants
With a culinary selection ranging from the traditional fish and chips to the finest restaurant cuisine you can be guaranteed a great eating experience for all the family. If socialising is your thing the range of pubs and clubs in Scarborough will provide you with many good nights out. Scarborough's thriving café culture is also worth checking out both in the town centre and on the shore where in season good coffee is available well into the evening.
Theatre and Cinema
Situated in the broad sweep of Scarborough's South Bay is the Spa housing the Spa Theatre, a 600-seater victorian theatre which is home to the second-longest running Summer Season show in the country. Scarborough Spa is fully self-contained with ample car parking, licensed bars and restaurants.
The Stephen Joseph Theatre was founded in Scarborough by theatrical pioneer Stephen Joseph.
The theatre is now located in the old Odeon cinema with Alan Ayckbourn as Artistic Director.
Shopping
Scarborough town is a hive of activity with a good range of independent shops to complement the many large stores and a regular continental market. Scarborough is one of only a small number of places that has become know as a seaside resort and a great shopping town.
