Working to create an environmentally sustainable business community in Scarborough, UK

Scarborough Emissions Working Group

By admin • Jun 2nd, 2008 • Category: Sustainability

The Local Strategic Partnership for the Borough (the North Yorkshire Coast Community Partnership) is keen to consider practical ways that emissions locally can be reduced.

The aim of the emissions working group is for partners with relevant expertise and knowledge, from the public, private and voluntary sectors to work together to share good practice and to consider and make recommendations back to the Board of the Community Partnership about potential areas for development.

Currently the Community Strategy for the Borough has sustainability as one of its underlying principles, and recognises the need at a local level for partners to play their part in achieving global targets to reduce Co2 emissions.

There are also some more local targets that relate to this area which are:-

  • By 2011 to have reduced domestic Co2 emissions by 30%.
  • Reduce energy usage, within SBC, by 10% by 2011 (compared with 2006)

There is, however, a recognition that more could be done in the Scarborough area and that the Community Partnership should be more proactive, in its work and through the Community Strategy in promoting more sustainable ways of working. The aim of the emissions working group is to consider practical ways in which this could be achieved.

We welcome feedback and suggestions from public, private and voluntary individuals/groups to help us achieve our goals.
